Acacia Griffin statues - Acacia Life Insurance Bldg (currently Jones-Day) in Washington, D.C. by Edmond Romulus Amateis, Shreve, Lamb & Harmon
statue
The Acacia Griffin statues are limestone sculptures by Edmond Romulus Amateis located at the former Acacia Life Insurance Building in Washington, D.C., now Jones Day. Created in 1936, the griffins symbolize protection and were designed to guard the building, which served as the company's headquarters until 1997. The building is a notable example of Neo-Classical Art Deco architecture by Shreve, Lamb & Harmon, architects of the Empire State Building. The statues reflect the Masonic heritage of the Acacia Life Insurance Company.
