The Extra Mile plaque in Washington, D.C. honors Luther and Charlotte Gulick for founding the Camp Fire Girls, America's first nonsectarian, interracial youth organization. Luther Gulick was instrumental in the invention and promotion of basketball and was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame. The plaque, created by Sam Pena, is located on G Street NW near 14th Street, close to the Federal Triangle Metro station. It recognizes the Gulicks' lasting impact on youth development and physical fitness.
