The Gwenfritz sculpture is a large steel stabile by Alexander Stirling Calder, installed in 1969 outside the Smithsonian American History Museum in Washington, D.C. Named for Gwendolyn Cafritz, it is one of Calder's most important works. The sculpture was fabricated in France and gifted by the Morris and Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation. Calder, a noted American sculptor, is known for pioneering mobiles and large abstract sculptures.
