plaque
The National Intelligencer plaque at the Federal Trade Commission in Washington, D.C. commemorates the influential newspaper that operated from 1800 to 1865. Founded by Samuel Harrison Smith and published by Joseph Gales, Jr., the paper was a key source of government information and the sole printed record of Congressional proceedings for a time. Installed in 1966 by Sigma Delta Chi, the plaque marks the site where the National Intelligencer was based for much of its existence.
