The National Intelligencer plaque in Washington, D.C. commemorates the influential newspaper published from 1800 to 1867 that served as a primary source of government and congressional news. Founded by Samuel Harrison Smith and later published by Joseph Gales, Jr., the paper was a vital force in the nation's political life. The plaque, placed in 1966 by Sigma Delta Chi, is located on the north side of the Federal Trade Commission building at Pennsylvania Avenue and 6th Street NW.
