This bronze statue in Lothian, Maryland, commemorates Benjamin Welch Owens, a Confederate artilleryman noted for his heroic defense at the Battle of Stephenson's Depot in 1863. Sculpted by Ron Moore and dedicated in 1999, the memorial honors Owens' bravery and posthumous Confederate Medal of Honor award. Owens was a native of Anne Arundel County who served in the 1st Maryland Flying Artillery and later returned home to serve as deputy county clerk.
