RHODE'S Tavern, Plaque marking the former location east of the Treasury Dept in Washington, D.C.

Rhode's Tavern was a historic tavern and inn built in 1799 in Washington, D.C., serving as the city's first town hall and polling place for its first election in 1802. It played multiple roles including a boarding house for Congress members, banking institutions, the Washington Stock Exchange, and the National Press Club. The building survived the 1814 British burning of Washington and witnessed numerous presidential inaugural parades. Although demolished in 1984, a plaque now marks its former location east of the Treasury Department.
