The Taras Shevchenko Memorial near Dupont Circle in Washington, D.C. honors the Ukrainian poet and independence fighter Taras Shevchenko. Created by Leo Mol and Radoslav Zuk, it was unveiled in 1964 to mark the 150th anniversary of Shevchenko's birth. Authorized by the U.S. Congress and supported by Ukrainian Americans, the monument symbolizes the struggle for freedom against imperialist oppression. It is located on P Street NW between 22nd and 23rd Streets near Dupont Circle.
