Supreme Court: Brick Capitol plaque on site of Supreme Court in Washington, D.C.

This plaque marks the site of the Old Brick Capitol, where Congress met from 1815 to 1819 after the War of 1812. It commemorates the cornerstone laying of the building and President Monroe's 1817 inauguration, which established the tradition of public inaugurals. The plaque is located on the west side of the Supreme Court building in Washington, D.C. It was installed in 1950 by the National Capitol Sesquicentennial Commission.
